I saw the consultant today. It was a good appointment and I have been put on a combination of injectable Mtx with the Plaquenil that I'm already taking. I tried Mtx before but had to stop due to side effects. I am going to give it another go and think it might be better this time because I have more reasonable expectations about how well I'm likely to feel, I am resting more and pacing myself better and I am more accepting of this disease and more willing to go with the flow a bit and have more patience. I also realise that the 2 units a week alcohol allowance means just that and cannot be stretched. I convinced myself before that 3 or 4 units would be OK for special occasions if I only drank once per fortnight but I understand now that my liver can only work so fast! So here we go again with a new start and new treatment. I feel positive and full of hope again.....and if it doesn't work out then I'll just try the next thing. I feel in a better place mentally after undergoing counselling and I think this will help me to tackle the next stage of my treatment. Thanks to everyone on here who has advised me and propped me up over this last year as I would not have got this far without you all. Best wishes from Naomi.

You're so right Dorothy. It is a lot to get your head around. I think I was so impatient before and it was part of being in denial about my diagnosis. I just wanted an immediate 'cure' from the dmards and complete symptom cessation with no side effects because I wanted to feel like I did before RA. I now see this as unrealistic and think it's part of having accepted my illness and all that it entails. I'm in a much better place mentally and I think you're right Sue about this helping the treatment to go well. I just hope I can sustain these positive feelings.

Hi Naomi :)

Love the new positivity, it really will make a big difference to your treatment outcome. Don't forget though nothing happens overnight in the world of rheumatology and patience, understanding and awareness are key.

Good luck Naomi ThumpUp

Good Luck Naomi, I hope it all goes well for you.
I am newly diagnosed and have managed to keep positive so far.
Hopefully in a few weeks you will be able to tell everyone how good you feel.
All the best

Hello Naomi

Well done on a great appointment. I had MTX initially by oral method and like you it upset
my liver and was taken off. I have wondered about whether they woul try it for me by injection
form again.

Good luck from me
